Day 1 - Dongchuan Red Land

Depart from Kunming in a private vehicle to the Dongchuan Red Land Scenic Area which will take around 2.5 hours. Arriving at the first stop, the Luoxiagou Scenic Spot. visitors will be greeted by a magnificent view of terraced fields. The terraces, with their red soil backdrop, are like a giant work of art created by nature. The layers of the terraces, combined with the green crops growing on them, create a vivid contrast of colors. The early morning light casts a soft glow over the area, making it an ideal spot for photography.


Next, proceed to the Jinxiuyuan (Splendid Garden) Scenic Spot. Visit the Millennium Dragon Tree. This ancient fir tree stands alone in the middle of the red land, with a history of over a thousand years. After enjoying the sunset, drive to Jiaozi Mountain Scenic Area for overnight stay, stopping for dinner along the way.


Day 2 - Jiaozi Mountain

Jiaozi Mountain Scenic Area is located about 150 kilometers (2.5 hours drive) from Kunming. Jiaozi Snow Mountain at an altitude over 4200 meters is the closest low-latitude, high-altitude seasonal snow mountain winter holiday destination from Southeast Asia where the mountain is covered with pure white snow from late November to March. The scenic area is rich in tourism resources with unique geological and landforms. It is famous for its sea of rhododendrons, virgin forests, alpine lakes, sea of clouds, Buddha light, and stunning landscapes of rime, ice and snow.


Jiaozi Snow Mountain soars over 4,200 meters above sea level, making it one of the tallest peaks in Yunnan. This majestic beauty offers a tapestry of natural wonders that will leave you in awe. The waterfalls can be found at an altitude of between 2,500 and 4,000 meters including the Double Waterfalls at the Heroes' Slope, Sisters Waterfall, Flower Stream Waterfall, Lotus Waterfall, and Flown-over Waterfall.


The stunning mountain lakes of Jiaozi Snow Mountain not only enhance the picturesque landscape but also provide spaces for reflection and tranquility. The water of the mountain lakes are very clear, with the mountain reflected in it, forming quiet and beautiful scenery.

        • Jiaozi Mountain - requires a moderate hike from the cable car station to the summit (1-2 hours, depending on pace).
        • Altitude Consideration - Dongchuan sits at 1,800m - 2,600m, while Jiaozi Mountain reaches 4,247m. Travelers sensitive to high altitudes should prepare accordingly.

        • Summer(June-Aug) - red land is vibrant, but expect rain showers. Jiaozi mountain has cool temperatures.
        • Autumn(Sept-Nov) - best for photographers - Dongchuan’s color are most vivid, and Jiaozi Mountain offers clear mountain views.
        • Winter(Dec-Feb) - snow covered peaks and forests make Jiaozi Mountain magical, but it can be very cold. Dongchuan remains accessible with misty sunrises.
